BEI wins ENR Award for best energy/industrial project in Southern California
The leading industry publication, Engineering News-Record (ENR), announced the winners of its 2024 Regional Best Project, and we are extremely proud to be one of them. Stanton Battery Energy Storage System, built by BEI Construction, was named the best project in Southern California in the Energy/Industrial category. ENR is widely regarded as one of the construction industry’s most authoritative publications — a trusted source of weekly news, analysis, data, and opinion that is international in scope.
About the ENR Award
The award is the result of a review process conducted over several weeks by an independent group of architecture, energy and construction experts. The judges did a thorough analysis of 90 projects from across California and Hawaii and selected 30 Best Projects and 27 Awards of Merit. The California contest is divided into two separate regions, Northern and Southern.
The award-winning Stanton BESS project
The 68.8MW/275.2MWh Stanton Battery Energy Storage System, now fully operational, is one of the largest energy storage systems in Southern California. It provides clean power and improved grid resiliency to Southern California Edison’s southwest LA region.
The Stanton project was completed in partnership with EPC contractor and system integrator, Energy Vault, and developers, Wellhead and W Power. This project had no injuries, reflecting our commitment to safety and operational excellence.
“We are thrilled to be named the recipient of this prestigious award and believe it showcases key strengths as a firm—the ability to manage short schedules and navigate the intricacies of a complex build,” says Jerry Zampino, BESS general manager at BEI. “Despite the project’s constrained footprint and energy density requirements, the Stanton facility was completed in less than five months and achieved maximum power in record time.”
We are especially proud to have won an award for this project, as it was led by the late David Hall, a dedicated project manager who poured his expertise and passion into making this vision a reality.
